Campus-wide Initiatives to Promote Compassion

The Open Circle is a group dedicated to encouraging a cooperative effort to restore compassionate thinking and compassionate action to the center of religious, moral and political life.  At The Open Circle we explore and promote the international Charter for Compassion.  Go to http://charterforcompassion.org.

This group was initiated by Canterbury House and The Interfaith Council.  We hope to expand our cosponsors to include many other student organizations on campus that share our goals.

Thursday Dinners & Discussion:  Thursday Evenings from 7 pm to 8:30 pm at the Spiritual Center.

Each week will focus on different aspects of compassion with guests or readings from different religious/philosophical traditions and/or neuro-scientific research.

Meditation: Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays from Noon to 12:30 pm

This includes sharing (voluntary), a short inspirational reading (from different religious and spiritual traditions), ten minutes of silence/or guided meditation and closing reflections, if any. Through the practice of meditation/mindfulness on an ongoing basis one is able to access greater wisdom and compassion.

The Millennium Campus: The Millennium Campus is a newly established student group dedicated to ending extreme global poverty and to achieving the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.  The group is part of The Millennium Campus Network consisting of 70 Member organizations on 30 campuses in the Northeast.  Contact caton@tcnj.edu for more information.
